OhChat Scores 8.7. Here Is What That Number Covers.

We ran OhChat through the same bench as every companion app on this site: memory retention, response latency, character consistency, image handling and billing clarity. The score below is the sum of those five tests.

OhChat — ohchat review

OhChat is an AI companion chat platform. Users pick or build a fictional character, then hold an ongoing text conversation with optional voice notes and generated images. Memory carries between sessions. A free tier covers basic chat; paid tiers raise message limits and unlock media features.

The full OhChat assessment

This is the long version of the verdict: what we tested, what the number means, and where OhChat sits relative to the rest of the category.

Memory is what separates a chat toy from a companion, and it is where OhChat spends its engineering budget.

OhChat is a text-first companion platform. You choose a character from the roster or define your own, then hold a continuing conversation in a standard chat window. Voice notes and generated images sit alongside the text rather than replacing it. Nothing about the interface is unusual, and that appears deliberate: the product competes on what the model does, not on presentation.

Our test sequence is fixed. Twenty turns of ordinary conversation, twenty turns of deliberate topic drift, a two-day gap, then a recall check on eight specific facts stated in the first block. OhChat returned six of the eight unprompted and the remaining two after one indirect hint. That result is the main reason the memory sub-score is high.

8.7 out of 10. Five sub-scores, one fresh account, one fixed test sequence.

Character consistency was the second finding. Companion apps commonly collapse into a neutral assistant register once a conversation leaves its comfort zone. OhChat characters kept their speech pattern and stated opinions through the whole drift block. Contradictions appeared roughly once per fifty turns, and a single correction was enough to reset them for the rest of the session.

The weak points are narrower than the strengths. Image generation works but is slow, and the queue lengthens at peak hours. The character editor exposes fewer controls than an advanced user will want, and multi-character scenes lose coherence fast. None of that is a reason to avoid the platform; it is the reason the score is 8.7 rather than higher.

  • Fictional characters only, with a verified 18+ entry point
  • Session-to-session memory on every character
  • Free tier with a daily message allowance
  • Deletion at thread level and at account level

Why OhChat

What the score measures

Three areas carried the most weight in testing. Each one is repeatable: run the same prompt sequence on a fresh account and you get the same result.

Persistent conversation memory

Persistent conversation memory

OhChat writes facts from earlier sessions into a per-character profile. Names, stated preferences and past events resurface days later without prompting. Recall thins out on very long threads, but far more slowly than in most competing apps.

Character consistency under pressure

Character consistency under pressure

We pushed each companion off-topic for twenty turns. OhChat characters held their stated personality and speech pattern instead of drifting into a generic assistant voice. Contradictions were rare and usually cleared with one correction.

Account and data controls

Account and data controls

Chats sit behind an account you can delete. Single threads can be wiped without touching the rest of the profile, and the age gate is enforced before any chat loads. Payment details are handled by the processor, not stored in the chat product.

Verdict

8.7/10, recommended for conversation-first use

If your priority is a companion that stays in character and remembers what you said, OhChat is the strongest option on our bench. If you mainly want volume image output, a specialist tool will serve you better.

  • The free tier is complete enough to evaluate before paying
  • Cross-session memory is the clearest advantage over rivals
  • Paid tiers add message headroom and media, not new characters

How it works

01

Create the account

Confirm you are over 18, then register with an email address. No payment details are requested at this stage. The free tier is active immediately, which is enough to reproduce our conversation tests.

02

Pick or build a character

Browse the existing roster or define one yourself: appearance, personality traits, backstory and how it should address you. The setup form takes about two minutes. Anything that must never be forgotten belongs in the description field.

03

Start the thread and let memory build

The first session sets the baseline. From the second session onward the character references what you told it earlier. Upgrade only once you actually hit the daily message ceiling.

Four questions, about two minutes

Which part of OhChat matters for how you actually chat?

The 8.7 is one number for the whole platform. Your answers decide which sub-score you should be reading.

“I ran it next to two other apps for a month. OhChat was the only one that still knew my dog's name in week four, without me bringing it up.”

“The character voice holds. I tried to derail a conversation on purpose and it stayed in character instead of turning into a help desk.”

“Plain interface, fast replies, no upsell popup every third message. The free tier was enough to judge it properly before I paid anything.”

Questions

Frequently asked

01

What score did OhChat get, and how was it calculated?

It scored 8.7 out of 10. That figure is the average of five sub-scores: conversation quality, memory and continuity, character consistency, media features and value. Each sub-score comes from a fixed test sequence run on a fresh account.
02

Is there a usable free tier?

Yes. The free tier includes the character roster and a daily message allowance, which is enough to judge conversation quality. Unlimited messaging and media generation sit behind the paid tiers. Nothing in the free tier is a demo version of the model.
03

Are the companions real people?

No. Every character is fictional and generated. OhChat does not offer likenesses of real individuals, and prompts pointing that way are refused. Treat the roster as written characters, not portraits.
04

How well does the memory actually work?

Facts you state directly are retained reliably across sessions. Details the model has to infer are less certain. On threads running past several thousand messages, older specifics start to thin out, so pinning key facts in the character profile is the practical fix.
05

Can I delete my chat history?

Individual threads can be deleted from the chat list, and the whole account can be removed from settings. Deleting a thread also clears the memory tied to it, so the character restarts from its base profile.
06

Does OhChat work on mobile?

It runs in the mobile browser rather than requiring an install. The layout adapts to a phone screen and voice notes work through the browser microphone. Response times tracked the desktop build closely in our tests.
07

Where does OhChat fall short?

Image generation is slower than in dedicated image tools, and the queue lengthens at peak hours. The character editor exposes fewer parameters than advanced users will want. Scenes with three or more companions lose coherence quickly.
